Lorraine Read, MS, CCC-SLP

Lorraine Read is a licensed speech-language pathologist and original founder of Word Play, LLC, with decades of experience helping individuals strengthen communication and improve quality of life. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Child Development Studies from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Northern Arizona University.

It is how people interact with the world, share their stories, build relationships, and connect with the people who matter most. Her passion for speech-language pathology is rooted in helping each individual develop the tools they need to communicate authentically and participate more fully in daily life.

Her experience spans hospitals, schools, and outpatient settings, giving her a strong understanding of how communication challenges can affect individuals across different environments and stages of life. At Word Play, Lorraine supports both clients and therapists, helping ensure thoughtful, consistent, and collaborative care. She values strong relationships with families and a personalized approach that considers each individual’s strengths, needs, and readiness for support.

Outside of work, she enjoys time with her family as a grandmother and practicing aerial arts, along with snowboarding, wakeboarding, and golf.

Stephanie Strom, MS, CCC-SLP

Stephanie Strom is a licensed speech-language pathologist and co-owner of Word Play, LLC. Born and raised in Flagstaff, Stephanie has a deep connection to Northern Arizona and a heart for serving families across the state. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Northern Arizona University.

Stephanie’s path into speech-language pathology began while working in a juvenile detention center, where she saw how closely communication, learning, and cognitive health are connected to a person’s quality of life. That experience shaped the way she views therapy today. She believes communication is more than words—it helps people express their needs, build relationships, make choices, and advocate for themselves.

Stephanie is especially passionate about helping children find their voice and communicate in ways that reflect who they are. She also has a special love for feeding therapy and enjoys helping families go beyond just nutrition to make mealtimes feel more positive, safe, and connected.
Her professional experience includes schools, outpatient rehabilitation, detention facilities, and home-based therapy, giving her a broad perspective on the needs of children, adults, and families. As a co-owner of Word Play, Stephanie remains actively involved in clinical care and supports the therapy team in providing thoughtful, consistent, relationship-based services.

Stephanie’s Christian faith is an important part of her life and guides the way she approaches her work—with compassion, integrity, humility, and a heart for serving others. Outside of work, Stephanie is a mother of three and enjoys hiking, cooking, painting, and spending time with her family.
